Summary of Meeting:

On September 10th, a very informative meeting on the subject Software Defined Radio was held at TNO-ICT in Delft.

Marc van den Homberg, Manager Connectivity and Defense Market, gave an overview on the activities of TNO and TNO-ICT in particular. The MODNL is the largest client with an average revenue of M€ 92.

Bram van den Ende, Senior Project Manager at TNO-ICT held an in depth presentation on the subject SDR. He elaborated on the history of signal processing and presented the main objectives of SDR:

·         improving interoperability

·         reducing radio hardware configuration complexity

·         software re-usability

·         acceleration in the development of advanced waveforms.

He also explained the relation to the US JTRS project and European initiatives like WINTSEC, SCORED and EULER.

LtCol Theo Sierksma of the Command & Control Support Centre of the MOD explained the requirements of the MOD with respect to land operations. SDR is regarded as a solution for interoperability problems that land forces are coping with in a joint and dynamic network structure.
